Your Journey, Unfolded

Four carefully crafted days in the ancient forests of southwestern Uganda — two gorilla treks, two sectors, and a depth of wilderness experience that few travellers ever reach.

1
Day One
Entebbe — Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Fly Into the Heart of the Forest

Your safari begins at Entebbe International Airport where our team meets you and transfers you to the private charter terminal. A scenic 60-minute flight takes you over Uganda's rolling green highlands, descending into the remote Kigezi highlands where Bwindi awaits. On arrival, your private guide greets you and transfers you to your luxury forest lodge. Afternoon at leisure — settle in, enjoy a sundowner on the veranda, and absorb the sounds of the forest. Evening briefing with your naturalist guide covering tomorrow's gorilla trek protocols and what to expect.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest — Sector One

First Gorilla Trek — An Encounter Like No Other

Rise before dawn to a forest breakfast, then set out with your certified guide and a small group into the ancient Bwindi jungle. Every trek is different — some trails wind steeply through bamboo and ancient figs, others follow river valleys heavy with mist. When you find the gorilla family — and you will — time slows down completely. You are allowed one extraordinary hour in their presence. Watch silverbacks move through the undergrowth, mothers nurse infants, young ones tumble and play. It is raw, intimate, and profoundly moving. Return to the lodge for lunch, afternoon rest, and a guided forest walk at sunset.

Day Three
Bwindi — Sector Two Transfer

A New Sector, A Different World

After breakfast, your vehicle transfers you across to the second gorilla sector — a journey through tea plantations, crater lakes, and subsistence farm villages that offers a window into Uganda's rural heartland. Your new lodge, equally sumptuous, sits in a different microclimate of the forest. In the afternoon, visit a local Batwa community for a cultural immersion led by community guides — a deeply human complement to the wild encounters of the preceding day. Evening is spent around a fire, dining under the stars.

Second Trek, Then Farewell to the Forest

Your second gorilla trek begins at dawn from the new sector. Different gorilla family, different forest personality, different memories. There is something quietly profound about experiencing the same species in two entirely different patches of the same ancient forest — the variation in terrain, density, and gorilla behaviour is remarkable. After the trek, return to the lodge for a farewell lunch. A private vehicle then transfers you to the local airstrip for your charter flight back to Entebbe. Arrive in time for connecting international flights.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fit do I need to be for gorilla trekking? +
Gorilla trekking can be physically demanding, with treks ranging from 1 to 8 hours depending on where the gorilla family is located that day. Moderate fitness is recommended — you should be comfortable walking uphill on uneven forest terrain for several hours. Porters are available to assist with your pack and provide physical support. A special elderly/disabled gorilla permit can sometimes be arranged (subject to UWA availability) for those who find the full trek challenging.
What is the best time of year to visit? +
Gorilla trekking is possible year-round in Uganda. The driest months — June to August and December to February — make for easier trails and are generally considered peak season. The green seasons (March–May and September–November) can mean lusher forest and fewer visitors, and gorilla permits are sometimes easier to obtain. We can advise on the best dates for your specific travel window.
How far in advance should I book? +
We strongly recommend booking at least 3–6 months in advance, particularly for peak season travel. Gorilla permits ($800 per person per trek) are issued by Uganda Wildlife Authority and are genuinely limited in number — Bwindi has a strict cap of 8 visitors per gorilla family per day. Once permits are gone for a given date, they are gone. Early booking is the only way to guarantee your preferred dates.
Why is the fly-in option better than driving? +
Bwindi is approximately 8–10 hours from Kampala by road — beautiful in parts, but tiring. A private charter flight takes around 60 minutes each way, arriving at an airstrip within 30–45 minutes of the lodges. This means you arrive rested, have more time in the forest, and can spend your last morning on a second trek rather than a full day in a vehicle. For a 4-day itinerary, the fly-in option transforms the quality of the experience entirely.
What does "Two Sectors" mean? +
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is divided into four gorilla trekking sectors — Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo — each home to different habituated gorilla families with distinct personalities and forest environments. This safari covers two of these sectors, giving you the extraordinary privilege of encountering two different gorilla families in two different parts of the same ancient forest. It is a richer, more varied experience than a single-sector visit.
Can this safari be customised? +
Absolutely. We can extend this itinerary to include chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest, a wildlife safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park, a Nile cruise at Murchison Falls, or a relaxation stay on the Ssese Islands. We can also adjust the lodge selection, add or remove cultural experiences, or modify the routing entirely. Contact us and we'll build the perfect itinerary around your interests, dates, and budget.
Is Uganda safe for tourists? +
Uganda is considered one of the safer safari destinations in East Africa for tourists. The gorilla trekking regions in the southwest are peaceful, stable, and well-patrolled by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. Our guides are experienced, and our operations team in Kampala provides 24/7 support throughout your stay. We recommend checking your government's current travel advisory before departure and ensuring you have comprehensive travel insurance.
What is your cancellation and refund policy? +
Cancellations made more than 60 days before departure receive a full refund minus a 10% administrative fee. Cancellations 30–60 days before departure receive a 50% refund. Within 30 days, refunds are subject to the costs already incurred for permits, lodges, and charters which are generally non-refundable. We always advise purchasing comprehensive travel insurance to cover unforeseen cancellations. Contact us for the full terms and conditions.
