01 Day
Arrival into the wilderness
Kampala / Entebbe → Murchison Falls NP  ·  305 km
Early morning departure from your Kampala or Entebbe hotel. Drive north on the Kampala–Gulu highway through Uganda's Buganda countryside and the expansive Nile basin. Total drive: approx. 305 km, 5–6 hours. Optional stop en route: the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Uganda's only wild white rhino population — easily combined for $40pp. Continue into Murchison Falls NP. Lodge options: Paraa Safari Lodge (mid-range, riverside), Pakuba Safari Lodge (budget, park interior), Nile Safari Lodge (mid-range, excellent views).
02 Day
Full safari — game drive & Nile boat cruise
Murchison Falls National Park · Full Day
6:00am — Morning game drive, northern bank. This is Murchison's premier game drive territory. Lion prides are regularly found on termite mounds and under acacia shade. Rothschild's giraffe — one of the world's most endangered giraffe subspecies — stride across open savannah. Elephants move in large family groups. Jackson's hartebeest, Uganda kob, waterbuck, and oribi complete the scene. Leopard are present and occasionally seen at dawn. Return to lodge for brunch. 2:00pm — The Nile Launch Cruise. Board the launch from Paraa for the legendary 2-hour cruise upriver to the base of Murchison Falls. Hippo pods numbering in the dozens surface beside your boat. Enormous Nile crocodiles bask on every sandbank. African skimmer, pink-backed pelican, goliath heron, giant kingfisher and malachite kingfisher line the banks. At the narrowest point of the Nile, your boat enters the spray zone — 300 cubic metres per second forcing through a 7-metre gap, plunging 43 metres. Return to lodge. Sundowner. Dinner and overnight.
03 Day
Falls viewpoint & return
Murchison Falls NP → Kampala / Entebbe  ·  305 km
After breakfast, walk to the top of Murchison Falls — a 15-minute guided walk from the car park gives you the view from above, looking into the gorge where the Nile erupts. For photographers, the spray and force is extraordinary at this angle. Optional: morning delta birding walk in the Murchison delta wetlands — shoebill stork territory. Depart mid-morning for the return drive south to Kampala or Entebbe (approx. 5 hours). Arrive by evening. Flight connections: book no earlier than 8pm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What wildlife can I expect to see? +
Murchison Falls NP holds over 76 mammal species. On almost every game drive you will see elephant, Rothschild's giraffe, Uganda kob, waterbuck, and Jackson's hartebeest. Lion sightings are frequent — 3–4 prides regularly patrol the northern bank. Buffalo herds are common. Leopard is possible but elusive. The Nile cruise virtually guarantees hippos, crocodiles, and extraordinary waterbirds.
Can I add rhino tracking at Ziwa Sanctuary? +
Yes — Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is directly on the route from Kampala to Murchison, approximately 175 km north of Kampala. A 2-hour rhino tracking walk on foot with an armed ranger adds approximately $40 per person and 2–3 hours to Day 1. Contact us when booking to arrange. It completes Uganda's Big 5 list on a single safari.
How does the monthly payment plan work? +
At $1,030 per person, this safari costs $86/month over 12 months — less than many monthly subscriptions. No interest, no credit checks. Email info@wanderandwonderug.com or WhatsApp +44 7826 805254 to start your plan. We confirm availability and hold your dates once the first payment is received.
What is the best time of year to visit? +
Murchison Falls is excellent year-round. The dry seasons (June–September and December–February) concentrate wildlife around water and offer the best game drive conditions. The green season (March–May, October–November) brings lush scenery, lower prices, and outstanding birding. The Nile cruise is spectacular in all seasons.
