Eight days crafted around what matters most — connection, discovery, and the pure, wide-eyed wonder that only Africa can deliver to young and old alike.
Arrival in Uganda — Welcome to the Pearl of Africa
Your private driver meets the whole family at Entebbe International Airport with a warm welcome and refreshments. After clearing arrivals, you'll transfer comfortably to your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. The journey itself is your first taste of Uganda — boda-bodas weaving through traffic, roadside fruit stalls stacked with jackfruit and pineapple, and the warm hospitality that defines this country.
Your guide joins you for a relaxed welcome dinner, briefing the family on what to expect over the next eight extraordinary days — including tips for the children on wildlife spotting and what to pack for game drives.
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary — Track Uganda's Only Wild Rhinos on Foot
An early departure north towards Murchison Falls, with a mid-morning stop that will leave the children speechless: Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch, the only place in Uganda where you can track Southern White Rhinos on foot in the wild. Armed rangers lead your family through the grassland until you are just metres from these prehistoric giants.
Ziwa is also a magnificent birding destination — over 300 species have been recorded here, including the majestic Shoebill Stork on the wetland fringes. After tracking, continue north towards Murchison Falls, arriving in time for a late afternoon game drive through the park's savannah interior.
Murchison Falls — Full-Day Game Drive North of the Nile
Rise before dawn for Uganda's most spectacular game drive. The north bank of the Victoria Nile at Murchison Falls National Park hosts one of East Africa's densest concentrations of wildlife: massive buffalo herds, Uganda kob, Jackson's hartebeest, Rothschild giraffe (one of the world's rarest), enormous lion prides, and elephant families that often stop traffic on the dirt roads.
Your guide explains animal behaviour with a depth that brings textbook biology to life — the children will understand ecosystems, predator-prey relationships, and conservation challenges in a way no classroom could teach. Return to lodge for lunch, siesta, and an optional evening game drive at dusk when leopards and hyenas begin to stir.
Nile Boat Cruise — The Most Powerful Force of Nature You Have Ever Seen
This morning belongs entirely to the Nile. Board your private boat and cruise upstream from Paraa towards Murchison Falls — where the entire might of the Nile River is forced through a seven-metre gap in the Rift Valley escarpment, creating a wall of mist, thunder, and raw power that you will feel in your chest long before you see it.
Along the way, the banks are lined with hundreds of hippos and Nile crocodiles, African fish eagles, goliath herons, and elephant families wading to drink. Lunch is served at the lodge before a hiking option to the top of the falls — a short, rewarding trail for older children and adults with jaw-dropping views from the very edge.
Murchison Morning Drive & Community Culture Visit
A final early game drive on the south bank of the park — home to olive baboons, vervet monkeys, waterbuck, and the occasional chimpanzee troop. This bank also offers some of Uganda's best birding, with over 450 species recorded.
In the afternoon, your guide takes the family to a local community near the park boundary for an immersive cultural experience — watching traditional Acholi drumming and dance, visiting a local craft cooperative, and sharing tea with a host family. Children love this encounter: collecting eggs from local chickens, learning to grind millet, and hearing traditional stories told by elders under an acacia tree.
Drive South to Lake Mburo — Uganda's Hidden Gem
Depart Murchison and journey south through the rolling green hills of Uganda's heartland towards Lake Mburo National Park — a compact, beautiful park that punches well above its weight. Unlike Uganda's larger parks, Lake Mburo has no lions, which means you can explore on foot, by boat, or on horseback without worry — making it one of Uganda's most family-friendly wildlife destinations.
Arrive in the afternoon for a sunset boat ride on Lake Mburo itself — hippo pods lounge in the shallows while egrets and kingfishers dart across the water's surface in the golden light.
Horse Riding Safari at Dawn — The Moment They Will Never Forget
This is the moment that defines the trip for most families. Rise before sunrise and saddle up for Lake Mburo's famous horse riding safari — cantering through open savannah as zebra, eland, topi, impala, and warthog scatter around you in the morning mist. Your experienced horse guides match horses to riders of all ages and experience levels — including calm ponies for younger children.
There is simply no other wildlife experience on Earth quite like this: no vehicle between you and the savannah, no glass, no barrier. Just the sound of hooves, the smell of wild grass, and Africa stretching endlessly in every direction. Afternoon game drive by vehicle to locate more of the park's zebra, buffalo, and warthog families.
Return to Entebbe — Until Next Time, Uganda
A final breakfast at the lodge — the children will already be asking when you can come back. Your private vehicle transfers the family to Entebbe or Kampala for your onward flight. Your guide accompanies you to the airport, helping with luggage and ensuring a smooth departure.
If your flight is in the evening, we can arrange a visit to the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre in Entebbe — a conservation-focused wildlife sanctuary perfect for a final family morning — or a leisurely lunch overlooking Lake Victoria. We also offer optional extension packages: add gorilla trekking in Bwindi, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale, or white water rafting on the Nile in Jinja.

Family Safari FAQs
Children of all ages are welcome on this safari. Game drives, the Nile boat cruise, and the cultural village visit are suitable from infancy. The horse riding safari at Lake Mburo is suitable for children aged 8 and over, with experienced handlers matching children to calm, well-trained horses. Rhino tracking is recommended for children aged 6 and above. Children under 5 travel completely free of charge.
Uganda is one of East Africa's safest and most welcoming destinations for families. The national parks are managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority with high safety standards. All game drives and tracking activities are accompanied by armed, trained UWA rangers. We partner only with lodges that have strong safety records and family-appropriate facilities. Our guides are trained in first aid and emergency protocols. Millions of tourists visit Uganda safely every year.
A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required to enter Uganda and is mandatory for all travellers including children. Anti-malarial medication is strongly recommended for all ages — consult your GP or travel health clinic at least 6 weeks before departure. We also recommend routine vaccinations including Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and Tetanus to be up to date. Bring DEET insect repellent and long-sleeved clothing for evening use.
We plan all drives with families in mind. Game drives are typically 3 to 4 hours with regular stops. The longest road transfer is Kampala to Murchison Falls (approximately 5 to 6 hours), which we break with the Ziwa Rhino tracking stop — so it never feels like a long drive. Our vehicles have comfortable seating, cool-boxes, and entertainment options. In our experience, children are so captivated by roadside wildlife and landscapes that long drives are rarely an issue. We are always flexible — if the family needs a break, we stop.
Yes — comprehensive family travel insurance is essential and non-negotiable for a Uganda safari. Your policy should include emergency medical treatment and evacuation, trip cancellation, and loss of luggage. Medical facilities in remote park areas are limited; evacuation to Kampala or Nairobi in a medical emergency requires insurance. We are happy to recommend specialist Africa travel insurance providers that cover family groups.
Absolutely — many families choose to add a Bwindi gorilla trekking day or a multi-day gorilla extension to this itinerary. Gorilla trekking is available to children aged 15 and over (Uganda Wildlife Authority requirement). Younger children can be cared for at the lodge by staff while older family members trek. Alternatively, Kibale Forest chimpanzee tracking (minimum age 12) or a Queen Elizabeth National Park extension for tree-climbing lions are excellent family-friendly additions. Speak to Brian, our Tour Consultant, to build your personalised extension.
A 30% deposit is required to confirm your booking and secure your lodge reservations and activity permits. The remaining 70% is due 60 days before your departure. For cancellations made more than 60 days in advance, we refund the deposit minus any non-refundable third-party costs (such as prepaid lodge deposits). For cancellations within 60 days, we will work with you to reschedule wherever possible. We strongly recommend travel insurance to cover cancellation costs. Full terms are provided in your booking confirmation.
