Africa's Most Diverse Safari Destination, Without the Crowds

Uganda is not a country you arrive at for one experience. It is a country where each hour of driving delivers something entirely unexpected — a herd of Rothschild's giraffes crossing the horizon at sunrise, a pod of two hundred hippos yawning in unison along the Kazinga Channel, or a pride of lions reclining in the canopy of fig trees in the Ishasha sector, fifty feet above the ground.

At Wander & Wonder Tours, our wildlife safaris are built for travellers who demand more than a checkbox experience. Every itinerary is crafted by expert local guides with decades of field knowledge, delivered in purpose-fitted 4×4 safari vehicles, and supported by our team around the clock — from first contact to the moment your return flight departs.

Whether you are seeking a dramatic three-day introduction to Murchison Falls or a comprehensive ten-day circuit of Uganda's finest parks, we design every safari with the same meticulous attention to timing, wildlife behaviour, accommodation quality, and the small details that transform a good holiday into a life-defining journey.

Wildlife at sunset Uganda
"Uganda is home to more species of mammals, birds, and primates than any country of comparable size in Africa — and fewer than 2% of the continent's safari visitors have discovered it."

Seven Reasons Uganda Belongs
on Your Safari List

Beyond the famous gorilla treks, Uganda's savannah parks, Nile waterways, and crater lakes form one of Africa's most complete and rewarding wildlife circuits.

01 — DIVERSITY
Big 5 Wildlife Across Multiple Parks
Uganda hosts lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and hippopotamus across its national parks. Murchison Falls alone harbours one of Africa's densest elephant populations, while Queen Elizabeth is home to over 95 mammal species including the rare tree-climbing lions of Ishasha.
01
02 — EXCLUSIVITY
No Crowds. Pure Wilderness.
Unlike the Masai Mara or Serengeti, Uganda's parks receive a fraction of annual visitors. You will often have entire stretches of savannah entirely to your vehicle, watching wildlife behave naturally, undisturbed by the convoys found elsewhere in East Africa.
02
03 — THE NILE
The World's Mightiest River as Your Safari Backdrop
The Murchison Falls Nile cruise is one of Africa's great wildlife experiences. You travel upstream through hippo pods, elephants drinking at the bank, Nile crocodiles, and over 450 bird species — culminating beneath the most powerful waterfall on earth, where the entire Nile forces through a 7-metre gorge.
03
04 — BIRDING
1,080+ Bird Species — Africa's #1 Birding Destination
Uganda is officially Africa's premier birding destination by species count. Every safari includes extraordinary birding: the prehistoric Shoebill Stork in Mabamba swamp, the Grey Crowned Crane (Uganda's national bird), the African Green Broadbill, and 24 Albertine Rift endemics found nowhere else on earth.
04
05 — PRIMATES
Add Chimpanzee Tracking to Any Safari
Kibale Forest National Park contains the highest concentration of primates in Africa and the world's finest chimpanzee tracking experience. Our combined wildlife and primate safaris allow you to witness big game on the savannah in the morning and sit with wild chimpanzees in ancient rainforest by afternoon.
05
06 — LANDSCAPE
Crater Lakes, Savannah, Rainforest & Nile Delta
No other country in Africa packs such geological and ecological variety into one territory. From the volcanic crater lakes of Queen Elizabeth, to the ancient rain forests of Kibale, to the remote semi-arid savannah of Kidepo — Uganda's landscapes are as extraordinary as its wildlife.

What Our Guests Say

★★★★★
The Murchison Falls Nile cruise was unlike anything I had seen in 20 years of travelling in Africa. Elephants drinking from the bank, hippos everywhere, and then the falls themselves — absolutely breathtaking. Our guide's knowledge was extraordinary.

United Kingdom · Murchison Falls Classic Safari
★★★★★
We chose Uganda specifically because we'd been told it was Africa without the crowds. Nothing could have prepared us for Kidepo. We had the entire park to ourselves for three days. We saw cheetah, lion, elephant — and not another tourist vehicle in sight.
Marguerite D.
France · Kidepo Valley Remote Safari
★★★★★
The tree-climbing lions of Ishasha were the highlight of a lifetime of wildlife travel. Our guide positioned us perfectly for the light just as they descended for their evening hunt. The photography from that afternoon alone was worth the entire journey.

Everything You Need to Know
Before You Book

When is the best time to visit Uganda for a wildlife safari?
Uganda's wildlife parks are excellent year-round. The dry seasons (December–February and June–September) offer easier game viewing as animals concentrate around water sources and vegetation is lower. The green season (March–May and October–November) produces lush landscapes and is often the best time for bird photography. Gorilla trekking is superb in all seasons.
Are the safari vehicles suitable for photography?
All our safari vehicles are custom-fitted 4×4 Land Cruisers or Safari Cruisers with pop-roof hatches, allowing you to stand and photograph wildlife at eye level. Our photography safari package additionally includes a specialist naturalist guide trained in wildlife photography positioning and timing.
Can I combine a wildlife safari with gorilla trekking?
Absolutely — and we highly recommend it. Our combined packages allow you to complete game drives at Murchison Falls or Queen Elizabeth National Park and then travel to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for a gorilla trekking experience. Most guests combine 4–5 days of wildlife safari with a 2-day gorilla trekking extension for a complete Uganda experience.
What accommodation options are available on safari?
Wander & Wonder Tours offers midrange and luxury lodge options on all safari packages. Midrange lodges provide comfortable en-suite accommodation with full board in excellent park locations. Luxury options include lodges such as Mweya Safari Lodge (Queen Elizabeth), Pakuba Safari Lodge (Murchison), and Apoka Safari Lodge (Kidepo) — all offering premium facilities and exceptional service. Budget options are available on request.
Is Uganda safe for international tourists?
Uganda is widely regarded as one of East Africa's safest and most welcoming destinations for international visitors. The national parks are secured by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. All our guides carry communications equipment and maintain 24/7 WhatsApp contact with our operations team throughout every safari. We have an unblemished safety record across thousands of safari days.
How do I get to Uganda for my safari?
Entebbe International Airport (EBB) is the main entry point, served by direct flights from London, Amsterdam, Dubai, Nairobi, and other major hubs. Most guests fly into Entebbe, where our guide will meet you at arrivals for the start of your itinerary. We provide a full pre-departure briefing document with recommended airlines, visa guidance, and health advice.
Can you tailor a safari specifically for my group?
Every Wander & Wonder safari is custom-designed. While our listed packages provide excellent starting frameworks, we encourage clients to contact us with their specific interests — whether that is a focus on photography, birding, conservation, family travel, or romantic getaways — and we will build an itinerary that precisely matches those goals and budget.
What should I pack for a Uganda wildlife safari?
We provide all confirmed guests with a comprehensive packing guide specific to their itinerary. Generally: neutral-coloured clothing for game drives (avoid bright colours and white), lightweight layers for early morning game drives, comfortable walking shoes, a wide-brimmed hat, high-factor sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, and any personal medication. We advise all clients to consult their GP regarding malaria prophylaxis before travel.
